The Space Between V – McMaster University (Hamilton, Ontario)

May 28 - May 30

The Canadian Percussion Network brings together percussionists from across the country, building connections between research and performance. Our in-person event series, The Space Between (TSB), is dedicated to bridging the gap between these typically siloed fields, creating new opportunities for collaboration and fresh perspectives on the ever-evolving world of percussion.

Since our inaugural TSB I in 2022 (McMaster University) in partnership with OPAS, the series has continued to grow. TSB II (McGill) in January 2024 co-hosted with QPAS (Quebec Percussive Arts Society) welcomed over 160 percussionists from Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Japan. TSB III brought CPN to the East Coast (Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia) and TSB IV in conjunction with Prairie Percussion connected musicians and researchers at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

We are excited to return to where it all began for TSB V. Hosted by CPN co-founder Michael Schutz, this event will take place at the McMaster University from May 28-30, 2025, once again in conjunction with OPAS. Thanks to a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant (PDG), registration to attend TSB V will be free of charge for all attendees. As we expand our reach across Canada and attract further interest from the international percussion community, this event will offer new opportunities for connection and collaboration for performance and research related to percussion.
