Example 1 – Interwoven Sensibilities, by Gina Ryan (2025), performed by Triolet
Percussion trio Triolet is an example of the connections that result from the Canadian Percussion Network: co-applicants Kristie Ibrahim (McGill), Gina Ryan (UQAM) and Victoria Sparks (U. Manitoba) met through the online and in-person activities of the network. Based in Montreal and Winnipeg, they are focusing on gesture-based works and developed techniques to rehearse and workshop online. Interwoven Sensibilities (2025) was composed by Gina Ryan and premiered at The Space Between IV in Winnipeg in August 2025, and later at the Transplanted Roots Research Symposium in Porto.
Example 2. Still Life (2011), by Jordan Nobles, performed by the CPN Marimba Orchestra
Large-scale works for percussion are rarely performed, due to logistical constraints. However, they represent excellent opportunities for community ensembles to form and perform unique works. Still life, composed by collaborator Jordan Nobles, is such a work that has been created with a flexible number of performers in mind. In this version, CPN brought together 16 players from pre-college to international level, under the baton of co-director Fabrice Marandola.
Example 3. Quigital Corporal Retreat, by Eliot Britton and Patrick Hart, performed by Architek
Quigital Corporate Retreat is at once a musical performance, an installation and a participatory art experience that captures the aesthetics of corporate retreats: their blend of synergy and leisure, work and play, and emphasis on team-building exercises. It draws on the dual roles of performer/retreat facilitator and spectator/retreat participant to create a critique of corporate culture through a provocative artwork. It is co-composed by co-applicant Eliot Britton and Patrick Hart, who are developing a series of works critical of AI usages, and produced and performed by PERC partner percussion quartet Architek.
