The Space Between IV

Percussionists came from around Canada and the U. S. to attend our fourth annual The Space Between event in Winnipeg, Manitoba to explore the intersection of research and performance on percussion.
Advancing the percussive arts in Canada through science and collaboration
Welcome to our fourth gathering exploring the “space between” percussion performance and percussion research! I know many have travelled a great distance – a reflection of both the challenge of navigating Canada’s geography as well as our collective commitment to CPN’s role in building a percussion community.
This TSB provided valuable new insight from kinesiology, musicology, acoustics, education, and psychology useful for our work. Additionally, the in-person nature of the event strengthened connections amongst percussionists – many of which began virtually through discussions on topics ranging from the Acoustics of the Handpan (Nov, 2023) and Biomechanical properties of Drum Grip Variations (Feb, 2025) to South Indian Rhythmic Theory (March, 2024), and the Journey of a Solo Percussionist with Dame Evelyn Glennie (April, 2025). Season 6 virtual event planning is underway and will continue to broaden our horizons with fresh perspectives from around the world.
